Why is Google the Search Market Leader

google search market leader 300x194 Why is Google the Search Market Leader

According to traffic analysts Hitwise, Google’s search market share in the US has risen to a whopping 70% in 2010.

The rest of the market is shared by Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com. With this rising trend for Google been noted significantly since 2008, traffic analysts have been discussing everywhere what makes Google the search market leader.

Innovation

Although most people argue today that Google’s approach to searches today is traditional and might get outdated soon, the statistics support an opposite view.

Google’s basic search functions might be traditional but that is what has made them click for the masses. It is still extremely easy to use for searching and provides easy-to-generate reports for PPC workers and SEOs.

There is a lot of opportunity thus for competitors to come up with a more innovative search experience but looking at current figures, competitor search engine companies will have to work a lot to beat Google in the market now.

Semantic Web

Concepts like geoRSS are the talk of the hour and Yahoo, only second to Google in the search market has already announced its working on the concept. What that would do to semantic web indexing is phenomenal.

Users will be able to search for very specific queries like book reviews in a specific part of the world written by a specific group of people, for example. Although most search engines might seem too laid-back to take this hard-working approach towards semantic web innovation, Google might follow suit.

Until Yahoo enables its search engine for this concept and makes competition interesting with Google, Google will remain the search market leader for sure.

Privacy

Initially, Google has been seen to be all up for user privacy and stressing on the importance of the relationship between users and the company.

Recently though, events have shown otherwise where misuse of user date by other users and by Google itself has come onto the scene.

With an initial public outcry and problems on a national level with some countries, analysts predicted a drop in market share for Google. It has however been growing since then too.

Although analysts may debate on and advocate the importance of privacy for users of Google or any service on the Web, users themselves feel otherwise, as shown by market trends.

Sharing of private data on social-networking websites has been rising exponentially over the years making room for behaviorally targeted advertisements. The same share of data has been seen in search terms on Google.

Today, users want to turn to Google to search for everything from self-diagnosing cancer to learning how to be a dominatrix in bed.

With users being completely okay with how they share their privacy online even after news of misuse of personal data, Google can be seen to be the search market leader for years to come.

3 Ways In Which Online Marketing Is Evolving

The world of internet marketing is forever evolving. What was true six months ago isn’t true today and what’s true today probably won’t be true six months from now. Therefore, it’s imperative that you constantly and consistently keep your finger on the pulse of the Internet.

Recently, three new changes have either come about or been imposed/proposed that could have a profound effect on the way things are sold on the Internet. Anyone who wants to stay relevant in this fast changing field had better pay attention and learn to adapt.

The Rise of Facebook

You may be saying to yourself that this is old news. Facebook has been around for ages and everyone knew two or three years ago that it was an important tool in the Internet marketing tool box. True enough.

However, what you may not be aware of (and even if you are, you may not realize just how profoundly this affects your marketing efforts) is that Facebook is expected to surpass Google shortly for sheer volume of searches.

In other words, while we have focused on search engine optimization and only recently begun to look at how to maximize our efforts to market on social media, our market has been shifting out from under us and is rapidly making SEO a second fiddle to the needs of closed networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Proposed Rules on Tracking

While it’s still not official yet, new rules proposed by the Federal Trade Commission regarding web site tracking have the power to fundamentally alter the way we do Internet marketing for the foreseeable future.

A very big part of figuring out what consumers might want to buy has (until now) involved tracking web surfing habits on major web sites, especially places like Facebook and Google. This has proven to be a highly successful tactic in making sure for example that you aren’t wasting banner ad impressions of emergency alert systems for seniors when the people surfing a particular web site are mostly teenagers (to put it into very simple terms).

However, if the FTC’s new rules go into effect, much of the tracking that is the lifeblood of today’s Internet marketing efforts will go down the tubes as people choose to opt out of tracking.

New Rules on Net Neutrality

Finally, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has recently proposed a new set of rules regarding net neutrality that could equally affect your efforts to sell products to people using smart phones.

Net neutrality means that Google’s web site shows up just as fast Grandma’s Sweet Recipe’s site and ever other web site on the Internet. However, the new rules that have been proposed mean that on smart phones at least, certain web sites can be given preferential treatment to show up faster and others can be displayed much more slowly.

The means that those who need to market to cell phone users (and let’s face it, that’s pretty much all of us) could find ourselves out in the cold with customers effectively unable to visit our sites and choosing a competitor’s web site instead.

What Is Google Telling You?

by admin on August 14, 2009

a main Full What Is Google Telling You?Google is known to change its algorithms many times per month. Google is also known to take drastic actions against spam, overtly suspicious activities and thin affiliate websites.

But although there are constant algorithmic changes, Google, it its guidelines is always telling us some things which never change:

  1. You should not spam ever!
  2. You should not get spammy links, because that will get you killed or penalized.
  3. If you link out to crappy websites, you will get penalized for sure.
  4. If you are dumb enough to use only 1 anchor text for thousands of links, you will get into trouble.
  5. We want you to give your visitors an excellent experience on your website.
  6. If visitors love you, we love you.
  7. If you are buying links, make sure we do not catch you. If we catch you, you will complain.
  8. If you do not have authority, you will almost certainly not rank high for the long-term.
  9. If for some reason you rank at the top for a keyword (provided you use legit ways to rank at the top), we will try our best to keep you there.
  10. The best links are those placed in-content (editorial links) and which come from trusted websites with high PR and traffic.
